Characteristics

In battle, Electric-types can prove useful as both offensive and defensive players. Electric types make for very good offensive Pokémon, as they have decent Speed and high Special Attack stats. Plus, electric attacks come in handy against two very prominent types: Water and Flying. Although Grass is also super effective against water, many water pokémon eventually learn Ice moves and make using grass a gamble; which makes electric the safer choice.
From a defensive point of view, Electric-type Pokémon are fairly useful. A handful of Electric-types have many resistances and few weaknesses. Even as a single type, electric has more resistances than weaknesses. Also, some electric Pokémon have a good amount of HP and fairly high Defense/Special DefenseZapdos and Magnezone are prime examples of Electric's defensive capabilities. Zapdos is able to avoid Electric's one weakness, ground, via its secondary type flying. Magnezone makes a splendid defensive player, as it has a whopping 12 resistances.
In contests, Electric-type moves are usually Cool, but no electric move is considered Tough.
In total, there are 28 Electric-type Pokémon .

Trivia

  • In the anime, the Electric-type has had some degree of exclusivity with Ash, as his Pikachu was the only Electric-type Pokémon owned by a main character up until Dawn captured Pachirisu in Twice Smitten, Once Shy.
  • Each Electric-type Gym Leader is seen wearing a military-style outfit; Lt. Surge wears a uniform reminiscent of that of Vietnam soldiers, Wattson wears what appears to be an aviator's jacket, and Volkner wears what appears to be a military uniform similar to that of the dress uniform of Turkish troops.
    • In addition, all Electric-type Gym Leaders have been male so far.
  • Every generation has introduced Electric-type Pokémon whose names begin with the letters E, M, and P, these letters, when put together, form the abbreviation for an electricity-related phenomenon:Electromagnetic Pulse.
  • In Generation III, all Electric moves were Cool moves except for Charge.
  • There is yet to be a Pokémon with double resistance to the Electric-type, though there are multiple types which do resist it.
  • Every dual typed Electric-type Pokémon has a type combination unique to itself or to other members of its family.
  • Out of all types, the Electric-type is the most unpaired, with only seven dual-type Electric Pokémon. Five among these belong to the only three-stage dual-typed Electric family (Magnemite's) and the only two-stage dual-typed Electric family (Chinchou's), while the other two are only available from the wild once per game.
  • Generation I introduced the most amount of Electric-type Pokémon, a total of 9. Generation II introduced 8, Generation IV introduced 7 and Generation III introduced the least, only 4.
